ACROSS ILLINOIS — The weather has been oppressively hot in and around Chicago, but that didn't stop the smile-conjuring stories from rolling in here at Illinois Patch. This week, we shine the spotlight on a miniature horse that's making a big difference, a corn maze with beer hidden in its depths and other articles that will upend just about any frown! Naomi Sharon, 11, is hosting her annual fundraiser on Sept. 9 at Brother's Field in Long Grove. Nominated as a Community Leader of Tinley Park, Kim Laidlaw is dedicated to helping others with her nonprofit Healing Hearts Comfort Dogs.
